For the three of you that regularly read my blog you know that I am a Linux leaning geek. Free is compelling but it is the community that keeps me coming back. I am also Microsoft certified and realistic that if I want to be employed for a long period of time I need to [...]

It isn’t often that I have a double wow moment but setting up Ubuntu 8.10 on VMWare 2.0 did just that. Let’s start with VMWare 2.0.

I’m not a user of Subversion (one note: I do use subversion client to upgrade this WordPress blog. There is no easier way to upgrade WordPress!), I’ve never committed changes to any software, heck I’ve never programmed anything outside of changing scripts that others have written. I am, however, the administrator of our [...]

I use SSH a lot. Putty is the default client for command line work and is necessary on all Windows machines that I work on. However there are times when I need to grab a file off of a server that I may not have a web server on or don’t want to [...]

For those of you that regularly read this blog (all 5 of you) my apologies for not posting lately. Honestly, I post when I have something to post. My geek brain needed a break after my work on the Zimbra email server.

I have been testing out the Zimbra Collaboration Suite and it is pretty impressive. The webmail client strives to be like Yahoo! which makes sense since they are owned by Yahoo!. It loads pretty fast and after making a few mistakes I have it setup pretty solid. The big thing was getting [...]

The standard video that Hardy Heron setup for my laptop was not bad. It had 1440×900 resolution and looked pretty good. There was no 3D acceleration but then again I don’t really need it. I got to thinking that I wouldn’t be much of a geek if I didn’t figure out how to get my [...]

It is not a secret that I prefer Linux. It is the ultimate server, modular, reliable, and free. The desktop has lacked some. My biggest gripes have been video, sound and wireless support.
My laptop supports a 1440×900 screen resolution and has a decent sound card. I am very mobile so a wireless card is essential.
Introducing [...]

This blog is for my own purposes and any suggestions or references are here to use at your own risk. Just because something works for me doesn’t mean it will for you. Linux distros vary and Windows is well, Windows.
Now that the legal stuff is out of the way…
I am a geek. [...]
